LAKE LINCOLNDALE, N.Y. — A man set up a hidden camera used for hunting after his sign reading “Protect the 2nd amendment” was repeatedly removed, and he wanted to catch the culprit.
Jon Gibson was shocked to find that the person removing his signs was a uniformed Somers police officer, he told Fox News.
“He had a huge smile on his face as he’s kicking down the sign,” Gibson told the news station.
“If the sign was close enough to public property, then [the officer was] within their right,” acknowledged Gibson’s lawyer, Richard Bombardo.
Somers Town Supervisor Mary Beth Murphy claimed that the signs were in fact on public property, and were removed to comply with town ordinances.
“The town does not allow signs in the right of way,” Murphy said. “The police chief had received numerous complaints from neighbors and it was determined that the sign was posted in the right of way.”
