HALF MOON BAY- A 22-year-old Half Moon Bay man was arrested Friday evening after he challenged an off-duty Hayward police officer to a fight.
Around 9:08 p.m., police responded to the Half Moon Bay Inn at 401 Main St. after guests at the hotel reported seeing a man with a gun, according to Police Chief Ike Ortiz.
Upon arrival, police found an off-duty officer pointing a gun at Chadwick Thomas Conover. Conover allegedly challenged the officer to a fight, reaching into his jacket to retrieve what the off-duty officer believed was a weapon, Ortiz said.
Though the officer’s gun was drawn, Conover reportedly continued to walk toward the officer and shouted profanities at him.
Half Moon Bay police ordered Conover to the ground, but he did not immediately comply. He was subsequently arrested on suspicion of fighting in public, assault on a police officer and obstructing a police officer.
