KENNER, La. — A Kenner man was booked with four car burglaries after an off-duty police officer caught him in the middle of one, authorities said Tuesday.
Angel Callejas, 41, of 328 Duke Drive was arrested Monday at 4:44 a.m. when the Kenner officer saw him removing items from the toolbox of a vehicle at 120 Incarnate Word Drive, said detective Shaun Watson, Kenner Police Department spokesman. The officer, who lives in the neighborhood, went to his neighbor’s house and found that Callejas didn’t have permission to be there, Watson said. Callejas also had several vehicle stereos and various tools he had loaded onto a dolly.
A search of the area found burglarized vehicles at 3205 Tulane Drive, 3219 Tulane Drive and 109 Georgetown Drive, police said.
Callejas remained Tuesday afternoon in the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center in Gretna in lieu of $50,000 bond for the four burglaries and two counts of theft.
