SAN JOSE, Calif.— A San Jose police officer is facing charges after he was involved in a head-on crash on Highway 17 over the weekend.
A California Highway Patrol spokesman says investigators are recommending that Fidel Guerrero be charged with driving under the influence and causing injury and driving on the wrong side of the highway after the crash early Sunday morning.
The CHP says the 35-year-old Guerrero was driving his Honda pickup truck at a high rate of speed and in the wrong direction when he smashed head-on into a minivan.
The impact caused another car to crash. Three people in the two vehicles were hurt, with one suffering a broken leg.
A San Jose police spokesman says the Guerrero has been put on administrative leave and is facing an internal investigation.
