BRISTOL, Va. — Two officers were assaulted during an investigation late Wednesday at a home where an active methamphetamine lab was found, police said.
A search warrant was executed just before midnight at the home of Larry A. Begley, 39, in the 1100 block of Rhode Island Avenue by detectives with the Drug Enforcement Agency, members of the Bristol and Abingdon, Va., police departments and the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, according to a news release from the Bristol department.
Three one-pot shake and bake methamphetamine labs, one of which was active, meth manufacturing items and two loaded guns were found during the search, the release states.
Begley is accused of assaulting the officers while the search was in progress and was charged with two counts of assault of a police officer, one count of manufacturing methamphetamine, one count of possession of two or more precursors, two counts of possession of a firearm along with a schedule II controlled substance and one count of resisting arrest, according to information supplied by Capt. Maynard Ratcliff of the Bristol Virginia Police Department.
The officers were not injured, Ratcliff noted.
Begley will be in court on those charges Jan. 23. He is being held without bond in the city jail.
