A West Duluth group home resident was in critical condition Tuesday night after being shot Monday by a police officer as he attempted to take her partner’s gun, police said.
Police were responding to a report of a fire and assault at the group home when resident Samson Waddell met officers in front of the home and began assaulting them, according to the Duluth Police Department. Both officers first attempted to control the situation by using their Tasers, police said. Officer Angela Robertson, a two-year member of the department, then fired one shot and Waddell stopped fighting when the bullet hit him in the stomach area.
The group home is owned by Community Connection Inc. of Duluth, which according to its website operates eight adult foster care homes in Duluth for people with traumatic brain injuries and related conditions.
