HARVEY, Ill. — A Harvey police officer Wednesday night shot and killed a male, believed to be in his teens, who police said pointed a gun at the officer.
The officer responded to a call of “suspicious subjects” who appeared to be armed, in the area of 158th Street and Emerald Avenue at about 7:10 p.m., according to a police spokeswoman.
When the officer arrived, he approached four people and one of them pointed a gun at the officer, said Harvey police spokeswoman Sandra Alvarado. The officer then opened fire on the unidentified male.
The shooting was under investigation by the Illinois State Police, who were called in by Harvey police, according to a state police spokesman.
The shooting victim was taken to St. James Hospital and Health Centers in Olympia Fields, where he was pronounced dead at 8:19 p.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
Alvarado said the three other people at the scene were arrested, but no charges had been filed as of late Wednesday. She declined to offer more details.
