TOBYHANNA, Pa. — Two Pennsylvania state police troopers were shot and seriously wounded Sunday night following a high-speed chase after a suspect with a young boy in his car in the Pocono Mountains. The suspect was shot and killed, authorities said.
The chase began outside Easton and ended about 40 miles away in Coolbaugh Township, Monroe County, when the suspect crashed his car, according to Pocono Mountain Regional Police Chief Harry Lewis. He said the suspect and police then traded gunfire.
One trooper was taken to Community Medical Center in Scranton and the other to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest.
A young boy who was in the car with the suspect was being checked for injuries, but Lewis said he was not shot.
Nazareth police Chief Michael Sinclair said the chase began around 7:45 p.m. following a custody dispute at a home on Union Street.
Police did not release the names of the troopers or the suspect.
