BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — A Kern County Sheriff’s deputy pulled a man off some railroad tracks Monday just before a train was going to hit him.
The department had received a report just after midnight about a man walking on the tracks in the area of Roberts Lane and Olive Drive, according to a department news release. That’s when Deputy Paul Duncan saved 46-year-old Gregory McKay.
The rescue was captured on video by a sheriff’s office helicopter.
McKay was arrested after being allegedly drunk in public. Deputies determined that he was walking on the tracks with the intent to commit suicide, the sheriff’s office said.
