OMAHA — A race car driver thought of a unique way to honor a fallen officer.

The World-Herald reported driver Jim Cahill debuted his 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt’s new special wrap that honors slain Officer Kerrie Orozco on April 14. The vehicle portrays a portrait of the officer and the words, “Honoring a fallen hero.”

“I wanted to bring attention to the Support Blue campaign and in particular the work of Officer Orozco,” Cahill told the publication. “I learned in the Air Force long ago that if you want to make a difference in this life, you need to care, share and give a damn. When I think about Kerrie’s life and all the things she did, those ideals really describe her.”

Orozco, 29, died on May 20, 2015 after being shot by a 26-year-old fugitive while serving an assault warrant. The fugitive was a gang member with a lengthy record. He was killed when police returned fire.

Cahill was given permission for the tribute by Orozco’s family and The First Responders Foundation. Orozco’s mother, Ellen Holtz, was with Cahill during the debut of the vehicle to christened the car with champagne.

“It’s a great tribute to Kerrie,” Holtz told the news site. “I’m really not a racing fan, but I do hope to get out and see (Cahill) race. Go Jim!”
