SAN FRANCISCO — Five months after Salinas Police Officer Jorge David Alvarado Jr. was fatally shot during a traffic stop, his life and service were honored at a sold-out San Francisco Giants game on Monday, KION reported.
Each year, Oracle Park holds Law Enforcement Appreciation Night and this year they invited the Salinas Police to help honor Alvarado. He was one of nearly two dozen fallen officers honored at Oracle Park on Monday, KTVU reported.
Salinas Police Chief Roberto Filice, Sergeant Anthony Parker and the department’s motor unit all showed up to see Alvarado’s name flash on the stadium board during the pre-game activities. More than 100 police motorcycles from different departments hit their sirens and flashing lights for a procession across the baseball diamond.
Alvarado, a U.S. Army veteran, had served the Salinas Police Department for five years. Previously, he spent four years with the Colma Police Department.
