WOBURN — Two men have been charged in connection with the fatal shooting of a veteran Woburn police officer during an attempted robbery of a department store Sunday night.
Scott Hanwright, 19, of Wakefield, has been charged with first-degree murder and armed robbery, and Kevin Dingwell, 51, of Wakefield, was charged with accessory after the fact as a result of the shooting. A third suspect was fatally shot after he shot the officer, who was responding to the robbery attempt.
The officer was identified today as 60-year-old John B. “Jack” Maguire, a 34-year-veteran of the force and the son of the late Woburn Police Chief Thomas J. Maguire.
