After their drunk babysitter abandoned them, the officers stepped in to help the hungry children

ALBUQUERQUE — When officers responded to a call at Walgreens on Easter, they found two hungry boys who had been abandoned by their drunk babysitter, KRQE reported.

A woman found the boys walking alone on the side of the road. She bought them a drink at the drugstore while she waited for police to arrive.

Upon arrival, officers discovered the children hadn’t eaten all day.

“Are you hungry? Do you guys want a happy meal or something?” an officer can be heard asking the children in the video.

One officer kept the children entertained with toys he kept in his cruiser’s trunk, while the other ran across the street to McDonald’s.

A third officer was able to track down the drunk man who was supposed to be watching the kids. The man, Jeramy Leuvano, told police he didn’t know anything about the kids.

Police found the children’s mother, Miranda Baca, lived around the corner. When police told her they found her boys wandering the streets, she was shocked. When officers didn’t feel comfortable with her explanation about why the boys were left with Leuvano, they called their grandmother to come pick them up.

Leuvano was charged with child endangerment and Baca received a summons for the same charge.

A passerby noticed the officers’ kind actions and posted photos of the heroism to Facebook. The post received over 1,000 reactions.
