The Swedish company that has pioneered much of today’s red-dot optical technology has released a new sight designed specifically with the law enforcement professional in mind. The new Aimpoint Patrol Rifle Optic (PRO) incorporates a lot of technology for its price, which is expected to be around $440.00, which includes Aimpoint’s QRP2 mount.
Aimpoint’s Darryl Bolke explained that the company designed and built the PRO specifically for law enforcement officers, who often work in adverse conditions.
The PRO, like other tactical reflex sights in Aimpoint’s lineup, is waterproof to 150 feet.
One noteworthy feature is the sight’s mechanical switching mechanism, which allows officers, even when wearing heavy gloves in cold weather, to feel the “click” when making adjustments. There’s even a little give in the adjustment knobs, reducing the chance that the sight’s settings would change in case the officer drops the weapon with the mounted sight.
The sight has a 2 MOA red dot that the developers believe to be best suited for engaging CQC and distant targets.
The battery life is up to three years, and Darryl suggested that officers turn on the sight and leave it on, as it needs more battery power to turn the sight on and off than leaving it on. Additionally, this technique means that officers don’t have to remember to turn the sight on when the situation heats up.
Another feather that helps officers counter problems associated with high stress is that the transparent rear lens cover (it comes with integrated front and rear covers) allows officers to use the sight, with both eyes even, even when both covers are closed.
