Video: Ohio cops throw surprise birthday party for boy with apraxia

12-year-old Brett Holbrook’s admiration for police began during a traffic stop

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State Highway Patrol threw a surprise birthday party for a boy with a motor speech disorder.

According to ABC 6, 12-year-old Brett Holbrook’s admiration for police began when a trooper pulled over his father. The boy was so impressed with the trooper’s professionalism and uniform that his mother made him his own uniform to wear.

The OSHP made the boy an honorary trooper back in April after they got word about his interest in law enforcement. That kicked off a 3,000-mile summer tour of patrol posts across the state – where Brett has set up a DUI checkpoint, conducted inspections and raised flags.

Last Friday, the OSHP celebrated Brett’s birthday with him.

“Thanks for spending your summer with us Brett,” the OSHP wrote in a Facebook post.
