OSHKOSH- A man arrested after a high-speed chase that covered some 50 miles told officers he took off because he had a revoked license, is a racing fan and didn’t want to get ticketed, a criminal complaint says.
Instead of getting a ticket, David R. Fox, 25, of Neenah, was charged Tuesday with four felonies and a misdemeanor, carrying up to 34 years in prison plus $95,000 in fines.
The complaint filed in Winnebago County Circuit Court said a sheriff’s deputy tried to stop Fox Saturday because he had a cracked windshield, but Fox drove on and kept going even though the officer had his emergency lights flashing.
In the ensuing chase, Fox forced vehicles off the road, hit three squad cars and continued to drive after running over tire deflation devices, the complaint said. When stopped outside Oshkosh, he resisted arrest and officers used a stun gun on him to take him into custody, the complaint said.
Fox faces a preliminary hearing Oct. 13 on one count of fleeing an officer, three counts of second-degree recklessly endangering safety and one count of resisting or obstructing an officer, according to records on the Wisconsin court system’s Web site.
He remained jailed Tuesday in lieu of $5,000 cash bond.
