TUSCON — A fugitive, who barricaded himself in an eastside apartment Thursday, was found dead by SWAT officers.

The man described as “armed and dangerous,” shot himself, said Sgt. Chris Widmer, a Tucson Police Department spokesman.

His name was not released. He was staying at his ex-girlfriend’s apartment in the 7600 block of East Callisto Circle, said Widmer.

The man was wanted on an arrest warrant out of Las Vegas for robbery and kidnapping. He also was wanted on a warrant out of Maricopa County, Widmer said.

Widmer said he did not know the circumstances regarding the Maricopa County charge.

The standoff between the man and U.S. Marshals, who attempted to serve him with the arrest warrant, began shortly before 11 a.m., said Widmer.

East Tanque Verde Road from North Dos Hombres Drive to East Wrightstown Road was shut down in both directions for several hours while marshals and officers worked to resolve the standoff.

TPD’s Special Weapons and Tactics team broke into the apartment at 4:26 p.m.
