MIAMI — A Sunday morning crash between a Miami-Dade police officer in a marked cruiser and two cyclists killed one cyclist and injured another, Miami-Dade police said.
Police say the on-duty officer was on Arthur Lamb Road and Sewage Plant Road, the road that goes to the Central District Wastewater Treatment plant. After he struck the cyclists, Miami-Dade Fire Rescue, Miami Fire Rescue and Key Biscayne Fire Rescue got to the scene.
Both cyclists were taken to Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital. One cyclist died. The second cyclist is in stable condition. None of those in the crash were identified by Miami-Dade.
Video posted to the Virginia Key Bicycle Club public Facebook group shows crime scene tape around a Miami-Dade police cruiser and, few yards in front of the cruiser’s grille, a bicycle on the ground.
The crash occurred in Virginia Key Park around 7:17 a.m. and closed the park until around 1:30 p.m.
