CRYSTAL LAKE, Ill — Crystal Lake is home to the latest cautionary tale of texting while driving.
Police say a 16-year-old girl from the McHenry County town was text messaging just before she lost control of her Lexus, careened across a lawn and slammed into a house.
The Sunday afternoon crash happened in the 800 block of Wedgewood Drive in Crystal Lake. Nobody was injured.
After the crash, police learned the teen was using her cell phone to send and receive text messages just before she lost control of the 1998 Lexus ES300 at a curve in the road and crashed, police said.
The teen was cited for improper use of an electronic communication device and failing to reduce speed to avoid a collision.
Her name was not released.
She was released to a parent.
