Police1 Staff Report
(HONOLULU, Hawaii) -- Five Honolulu police officers are on administrative leave after shooting to death a man who had allegedly just shot and killed his girlfriend.
Police Chief Lee Donohue told the Honolulu Star-Bulletin that taking the officers off duty is standard procedure during the investigation of a police-involved shooting.
Michell Udani and Cherry Ann Domingo died within moments of each other Saturday night at the Ala Moana Center. Domingo had reportedly received a restraining order against her boyfriend after a strangling attempt, but police said they had not been able to locate him to serve it.
Another police officer is on leave for wounding a motorcyclist in the neck. The Star-Bulletin said that the shooting victim had reported a robbery, but then attempted to flee police when the responding officer discovered his motorcycle had been reported stolen. The officer said he fired when he saw the man crouching behind his bike reaching into a bag, police said.
