BALTIMORE (AP) - An unarmed man was shot by a Federal Bureau of Investigation agent during a traffic stop as authorities tried serve a warrant on a bank robbery suspect, police said.
The unidentified man, who was riding in the front passenger seat of a red Pontiac Grand Am, wasn’t the suspect the FBI was looking for. Federal agents stopped the car late Friday near Glen Burnie to serve a federal warrant on an armed bank robbery charge, FBI spokesman Peter A. Gulotta Jr. said.
The man suffered nonfatal injuries and was flown to University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center, officials said.
Gulotta said Anne Arundel County police will look into the shooting and present evidence to a grand jury. An FBI unit from Washington also will investigate the shooting and give its findings to the Department of Justice’s civil rights division, Gulotta said.
The FBI would not release the name of the wanted man.
