WARWICK, R.I.- A former Warwick police detective will get 600-thousand dollars after settling two lawsuits against the city.
Jeffrey Scott Hornoff was sentenced to life in prison for the 1989 murder of Victoria Cushman. He was imprisoned for more than six years before being freed after a Cranston carpenter confessed to the crime.
Hornoff filed suit against the city last year, saying his arrest and incarceration was the result of a botched police investigation. As part of the settlement reached Tuesday, Hornoff will also receive a work-related disability pension.
Hornoff still has outstanding claims in federal court against the Rhode Island State Police and two state troopers involved in the investigation.
