HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (AP) - A Marshall University student says she was beaten by two women after a police officer refused to walk her to her car following a concert at the Huntington Civic Arena.

Lindsay Yanov suffered a black eye, a broken finger and other injuries Thursday. She spoke about the incident at a City Council meeting Tuesday night.

Yanov said the women assaulted and threatened her at the concert, then beat her as she returned to her car in a parking garage.

“After being assaulted and threatened at the concert, I sought police protection,” Yanov said. “As you can see, I didn’t get it.”

Huntington Police Chief Gordon Ramey II said he had not heard about Yanov’s allegations, which she reported to police Monday. Ramey said he would not review the complaint until an investigation is completed.

Yanov said an officer wrote down the two women’s names at the concert but refused to walk her to her car.

Yanov said was unsure whether she would take action against the police department, but she planned to seek formal charges against the women.

“All this could have been prevented by one officer who could have escorted me to my car,” she said. “I was kicked in the head, and I’m lucky I’m OK right now.”

The city budget for the fiscal year beginning July 1 includes the planned layoff of 22 police officers.
