(SLIDELL CITY, La.) -- The Slidell City Council accepted the lowest bids Tuesday night for 23 new police cars and for maintaining the city’s Web site.

The city will buy 12 marked police vehicles from Hixon Autoplex for a total of $296,432, three unmarked units from Hood Motor Co. for $63,380 and eight more unmarked units from Hixon for $175,214.

Meanwhile, DB Sysgraph of New Orleans will be paid $29,900 to upgrade Slidell’s Web site. The company is expected to begin work next month.

Slidell’s site includes information on the council and city departments, copies of agendas and minutes of meetings, an updated code of ordinances, and individual ordinances and resolutions from the beginning of 1997 through early 1999.

The first step of DB Sysgraph’s job is to review the site, then begin adding information, including archives of council meetings and audio coverage of meetings that anyone with Internet access could tune in to.

Plans include developing a calendar of events for the Municipal Auditorium and other venues, enhanced graphics, and an interactive system in which residents will be able to e-mail city departments with information about street, drainage, water, crime and other problems.
