PHOENIX- Three men have been now been arrested and two of them charged in the slaying of a Phoenix police officer earlier this week, authorities said Friday.
Investigators identified Donald ''Donny’’ Delahanty as the gunman who shot officer David Uribe in the head and the neck during a traffic stop Tuesday in northwest Phoenix.
Delahanty, 18, was booked into jail early Friday on a count of first-degree murder and was being held without bond, police said.
Meanwhile, Chris Wilson was booked on a count of second-degree murder and hindering prosecution. He was being held on $500,000 cash bail.
Police said Wilson, 27, allegedly handed Delahanty the gun to shoot Uribe, 48.
Another man _ David Sammy York Sr., 41 _ is accused of tampering and destroying evidence and been booked a count of hindering prosecution, police said. His bail was set at $90,000.
Authorities said York, a state Department of Corrections officer under suspension for substance abuse, is accused of helping Delahanty and Wilson by hiding the weapon used in the slaying and burning clothing items wore by the men.
Police took Wilson and Delahanty into custody at the San Estrella mobile-home park for senior citizens late Thursday afternoon. Authorities were led to the retirement community by Wilson’s ex-roommate.
Wilson and Delahanty were identified as investigative leads soon after the death of Uribe and a manhunt was launched by police.
Uribe, a 22-year veteran patrolman, was shot after pulling over a reported stolen car and died a few hours later at John C. Lincoln Hospital-North Mountain.
He was the fifth Phoenix police officer to die in the line of duty in the past year, authorities said.
