NEW YORK — Dramatic surveillance video shows a police confrontation with a man who had fatally shot a former colleague near the Empire State Building lasted only a few seconds.
The video shows a calm scene with people milling about on the street Friday morning. Then Jeffrey Johnson comes into view walking quickly down the street, followed by two police officers.
Johnson stops, wheels around and points a gun at the officers. The officers begin firing at Johnson, and he quickly falls to the ground.
The video shows nearly a dozen bystanders running for their lives, including a boy and a girl who were just feet away from Johnson.
Johnson died. Nine bystanders were wounded, likely hit by police officers’ stray gunfire.
