CHICAGO — Even if the cops couldn’t take down nefarious Ald. Ronin Gibbons, Fox could.
The network has canceled “The Chicago Code,” show creator Shawn Ryan said Wednesday. “Fox suits loved the show, but have a business to run,” the Rockford native tweeted.
The remaining two episodes will air as planned in the 8 p.m. Monday slot on WFLD-Channel 32, a network spokesman said.
Shot in Chicago, the crime drama struggled to find an audience. This week’s episode drew fewer viewers than ABC’s “Dancing With the Stars” and CBS’ sitcoms.
More than most series made on local streets, “The Chicago Code” attempted to capture the culture of the city, dropping references to area history and filming in areas both prominent and obscure. Its main characters - the powerful alderman (Delroy Lindo), a roguish cop (Jason Clarke), his book-smart partner (Matt Lauria) and a reform-minded police superintendent (Jennifer Beals) - were ever aware of the city’s climate of corruption.
Fox doesn’t announce its fall schedule until Monday, but reports said the network also has axed the sitcoms “Breaking In” and “Traffic Light” and the dramas “Human Target” and “Lie to Me.”
