HYANNIS, Mass. — A Sunsational Tanning employee was arrested Sunday for using his cell phone to secretly record customers as they tanned or changed at the Hyannis salon.
Luis Macedo, 47, of Mashpee, was charged with two counts of secretly video recording or photographing of nude or partial nudity. He pleaded not guilty Monday and was released on $1,000 bail. He was also ordered to surrender his passport and have no contact with the alleged victim.
Macedo refused comment as he left court.
According to the Barnstable Police Dept., a 29-year-old female patron came to them on Saturday to report that she thought she had been videotaped or photographed while tanning at Sunsational Tanning. She said Macedo had directed her to a specific booth where she noticed a camera lens beneath her feet. She ended her session and returned to the same booth on Sunday; however, the lens was not there.
An officer set up surveillance in front of the tanning salon on Sunday and reportedly saw Macedo pull out his cell phone and put it up in the changing room area.
The officer entered the business and seized Macedo’s cell phone which contained approximately 21 secretly recorded videos. He also noticed a small blacked out window with a peep hole concealed by an advertisement allowing clear view into the changing area.
Macedo admitted to police that he used his phone to take video through the peep hole or he slid the phone under the floor of the booths.
