LARKSPUR, Colo. — A man is facing theft and assault charges after authorities say he crashed a jousting performance at the Colorado Renaissance Festival in Larkspur and tried to make off with a sword.

A witness told The Denver Post the man was chased down by a woman dressed as a wench. Steve Chapman said the woman held the would-be thief in a headlock until Douglas County sheriff’s deputies could arrive.

Sheriff’s office spokeswoman Deborah Sherman says according to a police report on the incident, one of 22-year-old Connor Ward’s friends stopped him.

Sherman says Ward appeared to have been drunk when he grabbed the sword.
