DETROIT — Detroit police sergeant is under investigation by the department over a Facebook post that drew complaints from fellow officers, police said.
The sergeant, whose name police did not release, put up a post that featured a photograph of Beyonce’s backup dancers from the Super Bowl above one of the Ku Klux Klan along with this comment: “So if the dance troupe at the top is ok for this years’ half time show, then the one at the bottom should be ok for next years’, right?”
Detroit police spokesman Sgt. Michael Woody said the post that went up Tuesday has been removed and was replaced with an apology. He said other officers complained about the post to Detroit Police Chief James Craig directly and indirectly.
Woody described the sergeant as being “remorseful” and “regretful.”
Beyonce’s halftime performance at the game has drawn criticism, with some upset that the dancers – dressed in berets and raising their fists – appeared to pay tribute to the Black Panther Party.
Woody said the sergeant has been reassigned from the precinct where he worked.
