KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas City Police Department’s motto is “To Serve and Protect.” But there’s a little room in there for dancing, too.

Just as long as the right person asks.

On Aug. 8, when the Royals were playing the St. Louis Cardinals at Kauffman Stadium, officer Brent Wright busted a move or two on the concourse. Of course, it would be hard to resist when the dance partner was as cute as the little girl in this video.

“It was a blast,” Wright wrote in an email. “I was just having a good time. She kept asking me to spin and dance. I mean, really, who could say no to that smile and especially that laugh?”

Yes, that giggle is infectious.

The video has been shared multiple times on Facebook, and Wright said he’s received a lot of feedback.

“I’ve actually had several people approach me and say they have seen the video and thanked me,” Wright wrote. “While I appreciate everyone telling me ‘thank you,’ I don’t think that it’s something I deserve when it was something I enjoy doing.”

Wright said interactions with the public are not uncommon.

“While I know everyone is thinking it, I’m just glad they haven’t told me I need dance lessons,” he wrote. “But in all seriousness, officers do things like this all the time. I just happen to have a camera facing me when I did.”

And we’re all the better for it.
