BROOKLYN, N.Y. — At least one person was taken into custody, and nearly a dozen others received summonses after police broke up another crowd at an Orthodox Jewish funeral in Brooklyn Thursday.
It happened along a stretch of 15th Avenue and 43rd Street in Borough Park.
The NYPD says 11 summonses were handed out for people not following social distancing and for synagogues whose doors were chained from the inside.
The NYPD was called to the scene following a 311 report about social distancing violations.
This comes two days after police had to break up a large crowd assembled for an Orthodox funeral in Williamsburg.
No arrests were made at that scene.
Tuesday’s incident drew harsh words from Mayor Bill de Blasio who said the time for warnings has passed.
The mayor instructed police to begin issuing summonses or arrest anyone who gathers in a large group.
