Ill. police seize nearly $1 million in cannabis plants

CICERO, Ill. — Two Cicero men were held in lieu of bail Monday after police discovered dozens of cannabis plants, with an estimated street value of nearly $1 million, growing in a home drug-processing lab, authorities said.

Miguel Dimas, 21, and Lorenzo Zavala, 46, of the 5400 block of West 25th Place each was charged with multiple drug offenses, including possession of a controlled substance, according to the Cook County state’s attorney’s office.

Bail was set at $250,000 for Dimas and $300,000 for Zavala. The two have a March 18 court date in the Maybrook Courthouse in Maywood.

Police officials said the plants and other drug paraphernalia have a street value of more than $900,000.
