SEATTLE — Criminal charges will not be filed against a Seattle police officer who shot and killed a woodcarver last August.
The Prosecutor’s Office is expected to announce the decision at a conference on Wednesday, according to The Seattle Times. Sometime after that, Chief John Diaz is expected to announce that the Firearms Review Board’s findings that the shooting was unjustified.
About a month ago, a King County inquest jury was divided on the matter, with four of the eight jurors saying that Officer Ian Brink was not facing an imminent threat when he fatally shot woodcarver John T. Williams, according to The Seattle Times.
Brink has been on paid leave since the shooting, and the announcement of the decision could lead to his firing.
The shooting was partially caught on video. Although you cannot actually see the woodcarver in frame, you can see the officer approaching and you can hear his weapon being fired.
