CHICAGO — A Chicago police officer was stabbed in the abdomen while responding to a mental health call on the South Side Thursday night, authorities said.
The officer suffered a puncture wound and was taken to a hospital in fair condition, police said. A man was taken into custody.
Police were called around 11:15 p.m. to an apartment in the 9000 block of South Burley Avenue in South Chicago, where they were told a 26-year-old man was damaging the home where he lives with his family, police said.
When police arrived, the man started throwing things at the officers, then went outside and ran at them with two knives, police said.
The officers used stun guns to subdue him, but he stabbed one of the officers while being taken into custody, police said.
