Video: Instead of busting band for noise, cop joins them on drums

Const. Joel Clark had to remove his boots to play, but managed to keep up with the band

MISSISSAUGA, Ontario — When police responded to a noise complaint of a loud band, one officer joined in on the party instead of issuing a citation.

Police were called to a band playing loud music at birthday party Saturday, The Toronto Star reported. Officers asked the band, Vinyl Ambush, to turn the volume down a little but told them they could keep playing.

Toward the end of the set, Const. Joel Clark and another officer returned when they realized the sound was still a little too loud. To the band’s surprise, Clark, who was once an aspiring drummer, jumped on the drums and joined them for their final song.

Band member Corwin Bjelic, 15, told the publication he “couldn’t believe it” when the officer began playing and continued throughout the whole song. Clark only faced one obstacle, taking off his boots to play.

Clark said he originally wanted to pursue a career in entertainment, but was not given positive encouragement or advice.

“He said his biggest regret was stopping, which was kind of sad, so it just made me want to continue and hopefully do it as a job one day,” Bjelic said. “I think everybody else got that from it as well. Just never stop.”

Clark said he pursued policing after his last band broke up, but was happy the party “allowed me to do a job that I love while also doing something that I love.”

“It’s refreshing to have a story put out where it’s a positive interaction,” Clark said. “I’m very blessed to be a part of it.”

Police said the band ended the music before the noise bylaws required and no one was fined.
