PORT ST. LUCIE- Too much bass led to the arrest of a Palm Beach County man suspected in a string of Treasure Coast robberies that all occurred on Jan. 9.

Police say D’Andre Jones, 18, of Riviera Beach eventually confessed to robbing a man outside Body Talk Sports Bar on U.S. 1 in St. Lucie County, robbing a woman at a drive-up ATM at a Jensen Beach bank and attempting to rob another woman in a Port St. Lucie parking lot.

But it was the speakers on the 1990 white Toyota sedan he was in that got him in caught.

Port St. Lucie police officer Mike Smith stopped Jones about 8 p.m. Sunday in Sportsman’s Park on Prima Vista Boulevard after seeing him drive into the park with the stereo booming.

“We take enforcement of noise violations really seriously,” said officer Robert Vega, police spokesman. According to the police report, Jones told Smith he was driving without a license and had never had a driver license.

When Smith searched the car, he said, he found a pair of gloves and a beanie cap with holes cut out of it to make a mask. A police trainee then arrived and recognized Jones from pictures of the Jensen Beach ATM robbery that were taken by a surveillance camera and circulated.

Police said Jones later confessed to investigators.

According to the report, Jones told police he did not want to target women and even apologized to one from whom he stole $200 during the robbery at the Washington Mutual Bank ATM in Jensen Beach.

Jones told investigators he used a BB gun during the robberies. He later threw it into a trash bin and watched a waste hauler take away, Vega said.

He was being held Monday without bond at the St. Lucie County jail.

According to state records, he has a history of arrests in Palm Beach and Pasco counties and in Jacksonville on charges including drug possession, vehicle theft and resisting arrest.
