MESQUITE, Texas — A Texas police department is in mourning after a K-9 was killed Monday while engaging with armed suspects, according to FOX 4.
Police said K-9 Kozmo went missing after the dog was released to help track robbery suspects. Officers eventually found the suspects but couldn’t find Kozmo. After an extensive search, officers found the dog dead.
“It does appear that there might have been a struggle involving K-9 Kozmo,” Mesquite Lt. Stephen Biggs told FOX 4.
A veterinarian will perform tests to determine Kozmo’s cause of death, according to FOX 4.
“It’s devastating. Not just for the handler, but for all officers here at our department,” Biggs said.
