The Oregon Board of Parole and Post-Prison Supervision on Tuesday denied parole to convicted cop-killer Sidney Dean Porter.

The board deferred the release of Porter for 24 months. He is next eligible for release in June 2015. The board voted 2-1 to keep Porter incarcerated, concluding that Porter suffered from a severe emotional disturbance “such as to constitute a danger to the health of safety of the community.”

They also concluded that Porter failed to demonstrate a full understanding of his offense, and minimized his actions. Porter was convicted of aggravated murder and sentenced to life in prison for the 1992 death of John Day police Officer Frank L. Ward.
