MARLBORO, N.J. — A decision by Marlboro, New Jersey officials to place armed police officers in all nine area schools went into effect Wednesday.

Administrators say there will be one uniformed armed officer stationed in each school for the next three months.

While a message posted to the school district’s website said an armed police presence had been in place for several years, some parents say they are not convinced the armed security is the way to go.

School officials say there will be more discussions about what might be done to increase security in the future — all while being mindful of fiscal responsibility.

The superintendent tells FOX the three month experiment will cost about $100,000.
