PATERSON, N.J. — At least two people have been arrested in connection to the killing of an off-duty Newark detective shot outside a club Monday.
Police began to receive leads after surveillance photos were released, according to CBS New York. Cameras captured the images of two persons of interest and a vehicle, and officers are currently questioning the suspects.
Michael Morgan, 32, was talking to a woman outside the Sunrise Gentleman’s Club when a man attempted to rob them, according to reports. The robber fired a shot and struck Morgan in the side.
He was pronounced dead at St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center shortly after the incident. According to NBC New York, Morgan was at the club celebrating a birthday with colleagues.
Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday at the Saint Lucy’s Roman Catholic Church in Newark, authorities said.
