The officer is in stable condition after being shot at a traffic stop

FLINT TOWNSHIP, Mich. — A Flint Township police officer was shot Friday night following a traffic stop and scuffle with the suspect.

Flint Township Police Lieutenant Jim Baldwin said the 54-year-old driver and the officer engaged in a physical altercation when the man pulled out a gun and fired shots at the officer, hitting him.

It’s not clear what the stop was made for or what caused the scuffle.

The officer and backup officers returned fire, hitting the suspect, according to MLive.com.

Both men were taken to an area hospital for treatment. The officer is in stable condition. The condition of the suspect is unknown.
