RIVERDALE, Md. — Police dash cam video captured a Maryland officer falling through ice into frigid waters while attempting to rescue three people.
WRC-TV reports that three teens were walking on a partially frozen pond when they fell into the icy water. A 28-year-old Prince George’s County officer was attempting to help the teens when he also fell in.
The officer was able to pull himself and another person out before firefighters pulled the other two teens out. The officer and teens were taken to a hospital and treated for hypothermia. The officer was released a few hours later.
Police said the rookie officer has only been working for the department for about a week.
Authorities reminded the public that it’s never safe to walk on ice.
