A family member told the publication Woods had been out of jail for four months. His criminal record included: robbery, attempted armed robbery, shootings incidents, weapons possession offenses and driving a stolen vehicle.
Officers responded to the area after reports of a stabbing, Chief Greg Suhr told the publication. When they found the suspect, Woods, he ignored commands to drop his weapon. Officers attempted to use beanbags against Woods, but he did not respond.
An officer tried to cut off Woods’ path as he attempted to walk away. When Woods lunged at the officer, police fired their weapons, Suhr told the news site.
The incident is still under investigation.
