A man was shot and killed by a San Pablo police officer after a 5-mile chase that ended in a fight with the officer in downtown Richmond, investigators said.
San Pablo police were attempting to stop a car with one or two occupants at 20th Street and Wilcox Avenue for reckless driving when the vehicle sped off. The officers followed the car to the 200 block of South Fourth Street in Richmond, where the vehicle crashed. An occupant of the car took off on foot.
The officer caught the man, and a fight ensued. The officer shot the man during the fight, according to Richmond police Lt. Enos Johnson.
Neither the dead man nor the officer was identified.
