DULUTH, Minn. – A suspected armed robber was shot and killed after firing at officers Sunday.

Police say the suspect was a passenger in a stolen vehicle that they began chasing after an attempted stop. The car crashed into a house, and the suspect ran into a neighboring home where he fired at two officers, according to the Duluth News Tribune. One officer returned fire and fatally wounded the suspect. The officers were not injured, but a civilian was wounded and taken to a local hospital for medical treatment.

Police sought the middle-aged man in connection to an armed robbery at a Walgreen’s store Saturday night, when he reportedly entered the store’s pharmacy section, demanded pills, and showed the pharmacist a handgun.

“I have nothing to lose anyway,” the suspect told the employee.

Police Chief Gordon Ramsey did not identify the suspects or the officers, and he declined to say how many shots were fired. As with most similar cases, an active investigation is underway and the officer involved is on paid administrative leave.

A civilian was injured in the altercation, but police say the woman driving and the suspect did not know her.

The woman driving the vehicle was arrested.
