GOOSE CREEK, SC — A city police officer and several other people were shot Monday night during a domestic call, authorities said. A suspect also was shot.

Around 8:20 p.m. shots were fired at a home on Iris Street. A Goose Creek police officer was shot after he responded to a report of domestic disturbance at the house, authorities said.

He was taken to Trident Medical Center and later transferred to Medical University Hospital in critical condition, authorities said. Late Monday, the officer, who’s name was not released, was reported to be alert and talking. He was still in the intensive care unit, though.

The suspect and an unknown number of other people at the home also were shot.

The extent of their injuries was unknown.

The one-story brick home where the shootings took place is in the Pine-view neighborhood behind Advance Auto on St. James Boulevard.

Police blocked off several blocks surrounding the home, where late Monday a TV could still be seen playing.

A crowd of neighbors was waiting at the intersection of Ellen and Iris streets to hear from police.

One said she had heard what sounded like fireworks, which turned out to be several gunshots.

“From what I know, they are nice people,” said Cynthia Dennis, a neighbor who knows people who live there. “This is a shocker to know something like this could happen.”
