CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A police officer was reportedly injured after shots were fired near a police headquarters in North Carolina.
WBTV reports that multiple gunshots were heard fired near the parking lot of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department Law Enforcement Center on Thursday night. An officer was reportedly shot in the leg and was taken to a hospital. The officer’s injuries are reported to be non-life-threatening.
The suspect, Jonathan Bennett, was reportedly shot and killed by police. The 23-year-old suspect allegedly walked into the headquarters and started shooting. Details about why Bennett started shooting are unknown.
Police reportedly had been looking for Bennett in connection with the homicide of 24-year-old Brittany White.
Police are continuing to investigate the situation.
