HUMBOLDT, Calif. — A Humboldt County Sheriff’s deputy was injured late Saturday night while attempting to arrest a man reportedly involved in a fight at a Eureka business, a press release stated.

At about 11:30 p.m., a Sheriff’s deputy and his partner were conducting a traffic stop at Fifth and H streets in Eureka when one deputy saw two men fighting in front of a nearby business.

After finishing with the traffic stop, they went over to the fight between a “bouncer” and patron, the release said.

While they were trying to break it up, Jesse L. Dias, 23, of McKinleyville, allegedly refused to listen to the deputies and reportedly began to fight with them. One deputy suffered a fractured ankle. He is expected to be off work for six weeks.

Dias was arrested and booked on charges of battery with serious bodily injury, battery against a peace officer and obstructing or resisting an executive officer. His bail was set at $50,000 and he is expected to be arraigned on Wednesday.
