SOUTHBRIDGE, Mass. — Police Chief Daniel R. Charette presented lifesaving awards to officers Brian Haggerty, Jesus Rosa and John Ritchie during the Jan. 31 Town Council meeting.

On Aug. 9, the Police Department received an emergency call from Cohasse Country Club about a man who had fallen and was unresponsive, the chief said.

The trio of officers responded and “began lifesaving measures as soon as they arrived, and along with firefighter personnel, literally got the gentleman back alive,” Chief Charette said.

The man, who is 56, has fully recovered, the chief said.

“Without question, if these officers hadn’t acted as quickly and professionally as they did, along with our professional firefighters, this gentleman would not have survived,” Chief Charette said.

Officer Haggerty said it was nice to get an acknowledgement for good deeds.

He added that this was just one example of how the community benefits from the good working relationship between the police and fire departments.
